Al-Leith University College, in partnership with the Department of Civil Defense in the province, celebrated the International Volunteer Day at the college theater. The event was attended by the Director of Civil Defense in the province, His Excellency Col. Awwad bin Muhammad Al-Subhi, the affiliates of the civil defense, His Excellency the Dean of Al-Leith University College, Dr. Muhammad bin Abdullah Al-Maliki, the vice deans, the heads of the departments, the college students, and a number of representatives from the public and private sectors in the province.
The ceremony began with the royal anthem and a recitation of the Noble Qur'an. This was followed by a scientific symposium about volunteering from an Islamic and social prospective, presented by Dr. Akram Radwan from the Department of Islamic Studies and Dr. Adel Abozaid from the Department of Social Services, and moderated by the Head of the Department of Arabic Language, Mr. Ahmad Bamahram. Next, Prof. Atef Khalifa showed a visual presentation on the efforts of Al-Leith University College, whose male and female students along with its academic staff and employees exerted a total number of 10,000 hours in volunteer work throughout the previous academic year. The Saned Volunteering Team in Al-Leith province also gave a presentation about its volunteering efforts.
The Director of Civil Defense at Al-Leith province then gave a speech praising the importance of voluntary work and the efforts exerted in this field from the different sectors in the province. He said that the Directorate of Civil Defense in Al-Leith adopts, organizes and develops many initiatives in such a manner that achieves the objectives of voluntary work, in line with the set standards and regulations. He added that the opportunity is still open for the college students and employees to participate and provide the needed support.
Next, His Excellency the Dean of Al-Leith University College, Dr. Muhammad bin Abdullah Al-Maliki, gave a speech in which he highlighted the importance of the joint cooperation with the Directorate of Civil Defense, commending the organization of this event in the college and the efforts of the college students and affiliates in this field. He stressed the importance of increasing participation in volunteering work from an Islamic, national and humanitarian prospective, and in line with their role in achieving the objectives of the Saudi Vision 2020 in increasing the number of the volunteers to one million.
At the end of the ceremony, the director of the civil defense presented a memorial shield to the Dean of the College and the Head of Saned volunteering team. All the guests then toured the accompanying exhibition organized by the Saned volunteering team and the Kafa (Enough) Volunteering Society.
It is worthy of note that the International Volunteering Day is an annual world celebration which is activated on the 5th of December every year. This date was decided by the United Nation in 1985 A.C., and is celebrated by the majority of the countries worldwide. The objective of the day is to extend thanks to the volunteers for their efforts, and to raise public awareness about their contribution to the community.
