Out of great interest in research on the peaceful use of atomic energy and the tremendous development of the use of industrial atomic radiation in many peaceful fields, and as a result of the existing work of mining and drilling of oil wells and other projects, which in turn leads to the rise of natural radioactivity, an informative talk was held. In the talk, the radiation background resulting from these actions, how they are measured in the food chain, their risks, methods of prevention, and how to dispose of radioactive waste were explained.

What was covered ...

A detailed explanation of the types of ionizing radiation emitted by radioactive isotopes, indicating the differences between them, the danger of each one, and their modes of transmission in the food chain, was given. In addition, there was an explanation of the method of collecting and processing samples for measurement using a high-purity germanium instrument that measures gamma radiation, the handling data for calculating concentrations and dosages, and the various personal monitoring devices that measure radiation activity.

This talk took place in the presence of 30 female graduates, the seventh level female students, and the head of the department Dr. Manal Al-Sameeh

The activity was held under the supervision of the curriculum professor, Dr. Rania Fikri.
