The Department of Mathematics at Al-Leith University College, on Sunday, 4 Rabi` Al-Thani, 1441 A.H., under the auspices of the Dean of Al-Leith University College, Dr. Muhammad bin Abdullah Al-Maliki, held a scientific lecture entitled: "Mathematics in the Early Islamic and Arab World", presented by the academic staff members of the department.
The lecture targeted all the students of the college. It highlighted the role of the Muslim scholars in mathematics, their most significant achievements, and the effect of their significant contributions to the various branches of modern mathematics, most notably algebra and the engineering. The lecture also explained the scientific evidence of the contribution of the Islamic civilization to the West in many scientific and intellectual fields.
At the conclusion of the event, a panel discussion was held with the students entitled: "Mathematics Taught Me", which covered the issue of how to make use of mathematics and apply it in the practical lives of the individuals and groups in general, and the students in particular.
