On Monday 4 Rajab 1440 A.H., the Department of Social Service (Female Section) presented a voluntary awareness initiative on first aid entitled "A Rescuer in Our University". The activity was carried out by the female students of the Department of Social Services (Field Training 4). It aimed to educate the university community on how to deal with emergency situations and provide first aid to those who need it.
The initiative began by presenting the vision, mission, and objectives of the volunteer team, and defining who they are. Then they began to visit the departments associated with the initiative, which consisted of a group of clinics each of which presented two types of disease and how to deal with them. The first clinic was the "Hypertension and Diabetes Clinic." Each disease was defined, as well as how to detect them, their types, how to manage high and low blood pressure, how to manage high and low blood sugar levels, and the symptoms of each disease. They also measured the blood pressure and blood sugar levels of the visitors to the first department.
Then they visited the second clinic, the "Obesity and Asthma Clinic," where they defined obesity and body mass index, clarified how to measure body weight, and introduced health guidelines and alternatives to foods leading to obesity. In addition, snacks with high nutritional value were distributed. They interacted with this department by measuring body weight and body mass index. They explained how obesity is associated with asthma, and outlined the causes of asthma and how to deal with an asthma crisis. They used a detailed video to explain the correct way to use asthma sprays, followed by practical application.
Then they moved to the third clinic, the "Anemia and Hemorrhage Clinic." They introduced anemia and talked about its increased incidence at the present time, how to identify a normal red blood cell count, and current rates of anemia. They distributed natural juices that help raise the level of blood in the body, such as beets and berries. Anemia has been linked to hemorrhaging, as one of the causes of anemia is hemorrhaging. The correct method of dealing with hemorrhages was explained.
After that, they moved to the last clinic, the "Burns and Elderly Care Clinic," where the different degrees of burns and how to treat them was clarified. The last clinic dealt with taking care of the elderly, who are often exposed to the previous diseases. They pointed out the needs of the elderly and how to help them in emergency cases. A booklet on the needs of the elderly was presented.
At the end of the activity, the pharmacy was opened. The activity was held under the supervision of the Deputy Head of the Department, Dr. Rasha Majlad, and the course lecturer, Dr. Nawal Al-Qarihi.
