Perfume-manufacturing activity

The Chemistry Department (girls section) celebrated Chemistry on Tuesday 17 Rajab 1439AH.

Students from the Chemistry Department participated in the activity. It aimed to educate on making perfumes with the least cost possible, as various perfumes were made easily and exhibited in the fair.

Man has been interested in perfumes since ancient times, as perfumes put people in a state of happiness and psychological comfort. People started developing this interest in perfumes when they smelled roses and flowers as well as aromatic plants. People burned these flowers and plants and enjoyed their strong aroma. This was followed by the perfume industry developing as people started squeezing rose petals and distilling their juice to get a concentrated perfume. They then put these perfumes in elegant bottles and gave them as gifts to kings and nobles at the time.

The perfume industry developed over the years until factories were established just for manufacturing brand perfumes with beautiful smells. This industry was facilitated by using alcohol, glycerin, distilled water, concentrated oil perfumes, and other very simple and affordable materials.

The activity was held under the supervision of the head of the Department, Dr. Manal Al-Samih, and the course professor, Dr. Amal Amen.

With the preparation of students: Shatha Attia Mahnashi and Aamena Dakhil Al-Fahmi.
