External Scholarship Students
Admission requirements applicable to the Saudi students are applied to the students of the internal and external scholarships in the higher education institutions.
Eligibility Standards of the External Scholarship Students
- The age of the applicant must be no less than 17 year and no more than 25 years for the undergraduate and Arabic language teaching institute or its equivalent; and 30 years for master; and 35 for doctorate. The educational institution council has the right to make exceptions.
- The government of the student’s country approves the studying in the Kingdom as far as the states requiring that from the Saudi students are concerned
- Student must not have obtained other scholarships from any educational institutions in the Kingdom
- Certificates and papers must be certified by the competent bodies which the educational institution determines
- Student must submit clean criminal record from the security bodies in their home country
- Student must not be dismissed from any educational institutions in the Kingdom
- Female student must be accompanied by an immediate relative according to the applicable laws. Their immediate relative is be included as part of a scholarship, or they must be a regular resident or they are employed in the Kingdom
- Student must pass the medical examination the rules and instructions determine
- The educational institution may stipulate that the student be recommended by some bodies or personalities determined by it
- The educational institution council lays out the executive rules regulating the naming of the internal scholarship students while taking into consideration the following:
- Student must obtain the approval of whoever it may be for their academic transcript to study in the educational institution
- Student must be a regular resident in the Kingdom
Submitting scholarship applications
Scholarship applications are submitted through:
- Embassies of the Kingdom and their offices abroad
- Higher education institutions in the Kingdom
Procedures of naming the scholarship students
Without violating any of the above-mentioned, the following procedures are taken as far as the naming of students is concerned:
- The Kingdom’s embassies and its offices abroad take charge of receiving the scholarship applications submitted to them according to the standards approved by the Permanent Committee formed by the Ministry of Education. After examining these applications, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs forwards them to the Ministry of Education. This takes place within the timeline set for receiving the applications according to what the Permanent Committee dictates.
- After the higher education institutions have verified the conformity of requirements to the scholarship applicants, the Ministry of Education sends the names of the applicants to the relevant bodies. These bodies are to regularly provide the Ministry of Education with their vision within no less than 30 days’ time. Afterwards, the Ministry of Education completes the procedures of the names it received according to what mentioned in the paragraph 3 of this item
- After going about what was mentioned in the paragraph 2, the Ministry of Education forwards the names of the students named for the scholarship to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to complete the procedures related to the issuing of visas. Then, the educational institution send notifications to the named students instructing them to visit the Saudi consulates in their countries to complete the visa procedures
- With taking into consideration what was mentioned in the paragraph 1 of this item, if scholarship applications came from abroad to the higher education institutions in the Kingdom, after verifying that these institutions meet the eligibility standards, the Ministry of Education should send the names of the named students to the relevant bodies and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take the procedures stated in the paragraphs 2 and 3 of this item
