Because of globalization, the universities have become in open competition and challenge between each other to occupy the best positions at the national, regional and global level. Thus, each university, using their own ways, is harnessing the latest technologies, including hardware, software and networks, to serve the educational process and develop its outputs. After the fashion of these universities, Umm Al-Qura University pursued to put together strategic and operational plans so as to develop the educational process and ensure its outputs quality as well as its suitability with the labor market requirements; achieving the goals of Saudi Arabia’s 2030 vision. Hence, the university entrusted the Deanship of Information Technology to spread and activate the culture of using information technology through engaging in the National Transformation 2020 Program and the Governmental E-Transactions Program (Make it Easy), and by utilizing advanced infrastructure and networks as well as applications and programs that ensure the provision of the services required to all the beneficiaries, including students, faculty members and employees, easily, quickly, safely, professionally and transparently.

Through its strategic plan, the Deanship of Information Technology seeks to achieve a set of objectives that have been put together and defined through a clear vision and mission aimed at attaining these objectives, they are:

  • Providing smart, interactive and comprehensive e-service.
  • Providing automated and integrated systems and services.
  • Providing advanced infrastructure linking between all the university's headquarters and branches.
  • Applying national and global specifications and standards.

Accordingly, the Deanship of Information Technology tended to establish an organizational structure that will be used as an effective tool by which the deanship will achieve its strategic plan’s goals. The most important detailed objectives are the continuation of building and developing a platform including modern and developed infrastructure, networks, databases, applications and programs; the maintenance of information security of the university’s network; the smooth functioning of basic daily operations; the development of new applications to the portal; and the provision of a wide range of electronic services that provide constructive communication between all groups of the university community, including students, faculty members and employees, so as to serve the educational process and ensure its outputs’ quality through using the latest technologies and by distinguished human expertise.
