The College of Applied Sciences organized a valuable scientific lecture entitled: "The Solar Pond of Makkah". The lecture was held remotely via the WebEx program on Tuesday, 11 Sha`ban 1442 A.H., and was presented by His Excellency Prof. Abdullah Ahmad Abdullah, Professor of Applied Mathematics (fluid mechanics).
The course was opened by the Vice Dean of the College of Applied Sciences for Academic Affairs, Dr. Ismail bin Ibrahim Al-Thaqafi, who welcomed His Excellency the Dean of the College, Prof. Wael bin Muhammad Al-Amoudi, the honorable guests from the staff of our college and other colleges, and the attending male and female students. He thanked them for attending and interacting with the various activities held by the college.
The lecture included the basic concepts of the phenomenon of solar ponds and then presented the Makkah solar pond project as one of the projects funded by the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology. During the meeting, the stages of building the pond were explained as well as the building of its layers and periodic maintenance operations, not to mention the heat extraction system. The practical applications and research results that have been published from this project were also presented.
Given the scientific importance of the lecture's content in renewable energy research, the lecture had a distinguished presence, during which the attendees were able to ask some questions and inquiries.
At the end of the lecture, Dr. Ismail Al-Thaqafi thanked and appreciated the presenter. He also thanked His Excellency the Dean of the College of Applied Sciences for his continuous support for all college activities.
