The UQU College of Health Sciences in Leith, Girls Section, in cooperation with Leith Education Directorate, organized a campaign titiled: "Healthy Nutrition for the Various Growth Stages", under the theme: "Be Aware". The health awareness campaign, launched on Thursday, March 16, 2017, targeted public education for girls in Leith, especially the first, second and third primary schools, in addition to Leith's Secondary School.
More than 1000 students benefited from the campaign activities. Through a series of campaigns organized by the students, they participated in a wide array of activities that deepened their health awareness.
Dr. Tariq A. Dhafar, dean of Leith College of Health Sciences, lauded the community partnership reached between the college and the education directorate. That partnership, according to Dr. Dhafar, contributed to activating the food safety health awareness campaign, ad many other campaigns held all through the year in the educational field, targeting school students with outstanding specific awareness-raising programs. In the meantime, he commended the ongoing cooperation between the college and the education directorate, and the great support that the college receives from Mr. Mar'i M. al-Barakati, director of education.
For her part, the Vice Dean of Leith College of Health Sciences for Girls, Dr. Liqaa Hassan, pointed out that the campaign targeted school students, aiming at raising their awareness of food safety, and combat of food poisoning, food-associated diseases, and unhealthy foods. She mentioned that campaign program included awareness-raising lectures given by the college's faculty members and students. That is to be added to an exhibition on the ways of prevention and food safety, organized by students of the Public Health Department. Additionally, the exhibition included sample of healthy foods, awareness brochures and posters aiming to boost students' awareness of the health concept.
Dr. Faleh al-Yazidi, head of the Department of Public Health, lauded the valued efforts exerted by students to participate in the educational and awareness-raising processes that are of substantial importance for boosting the public awareness.
The students of Leith Health Sciences College, on their part, called on the school students participating in the campaign to convey the knowledge they acquire from such campaigns to their families, and all community members. Meanwhile, they thanked Dr. Tariq Dhafar, dean of Leith College of Health Sciences, Dr. Liqaa Hassan, the vice dean, and all who took part in organizing the campaign.
