The College of Applied Sciences, in collaboration with the Deanship of Student Affairs, represented by the Vice Deanship for Direction, Guidance and Community Partnership, hosted the representatives of Makkah General Directorate of Education and a delegation of female students from the secondary school students on Monday, 21 Rabi` Al-Awwal 1441 A.H.
The visit started by acquainting the female students with the different disciplines of the College (Biology - Chemistry - Physics - Mathematics), followed by a tour of the Department of Mathematics. They were received by Her Excellency the Deputy Head of the Department and a number of the academic staff members. A simplified presentation on the importance of mathematics in our lives was demonstrated to the visitors, and they were educated on the ways mathematics contributed to the development of other sciences, after which they visited the computer lab.
Afterward, the visitors had a tour of the Department of Physics, where they were received by Her Excellency the Deputy Head and a number of faculty members, who acquainted the students with the laboratories of the department. The students participated in one of the optics experiments on diffraction, and observed some simple collision experiments. They also visited the department's corner at the International Day of Medical Physics event that was held that day.
They also visited the Department of Chemistry, where they were received by Her Excellency the Deputy Head and a number of faculty members, and the students witnessed an experiment demonstrating the role of forensic chemistry. During the visit, they also learned about the mechanism of identifying the exact circumstances of crimes using chemical analysis and methods, such as the procedures for capturing fingerprints in crime scenes using iodine 12.
The tour ended with a visit to the Department of Biology, where they were received by Her Excellency the Deputy Head and a number of faculty members. The students also visited the department's corner in the "Let's Make Our Planet Clean" event, which included a demonstration of some simple relevant experiments.
At the end of the visit, symbolic gifts were distributed to the students by the affiliates of the said departments, in addition to some awareness leaflets, which were prepared by the college students under the supervision of the department professors. Moreover, leaflets delineating the vision, mission, and objectives of the college, as well as the potential career paths for the graduates, were distributed.
Wrapping up the visit, the student delegation and representatives extended their thanks and appreciation to the Vice Dean of the College of Applied Sciences and the Deputy Heads of the Departments for their warm welcome.
