College of Applied Sciences Holds Activity Entitled 'We Protect Our Environment for the Sake of the Welfare of our Community'

On the occasion of the World Environment Week, the College of Applied Sciences, under the patronage of the Vice Dean of the College of Applied Sciences, Her Excellency Dr. Rajaa bint Tahir Ma`touq, held an event entitled, 'We Protect Our Environment for the Sake of the Welfare of Our Community', on Thursday, 21 Rajab, 1440 A.H. This event was attended by a great number of the academic staff and female students at the College of Applied Sciences. It aimed at informing students about the importance of protecting the environment by carrying out different activities that contributed in achieving the desired goal.

The first activity addressed the problems that our environment encounters due to misuse of some resources and harmful human intervention, such as logging, desertification, global warming, and recycling of some food stuffs. The activity ended by associating some verses from the Qur'an with the theme, 'Fruits That Are Stated in the Glorious Qur'an'. Some of the students from the Department of Biology participated in this event.

The second activity dealt with informing students about the importance of contributing in diminishing environmental pollution, such as avoiding asking for receipts at an ATM, throwing the receipts away properly, and urging people to buy water filters to have clean water which is free from impurities.

Third activity tackled the concept of toxicology, which points out the dangers of intoxicants that cause harm to the environment, such as chemical insecticides, and how to replace them with safe natural materials taken from aromatic plants. The two last activities were performed with the participation of a group of female students from the Department of Chemistry.

At the end of the event, the Vice Dean of the College of Applied Sciences, Her Excellency Dr. Rajaa Ma`touq, expressed her thanks to the Deputy Head of the Department of Chemistry, Dr. Tahani Bawazir, Deputy Head of the Department of Biology, Her Excellency Dr. Azari Filmban, and Their Excellencies the academic staff members and female students for their efforts in the event that helped to upgrade and develop the university community. It also helped in creating a communal environment free from negative behaviors.

The event was covered by the Media Committee at the College under the supervision of Ms. Rajaa Abdul-Wahhab Noqali.

The group of female students included: Rahaf Al-Aqili, Nur Bahaddad, Fairouz Yar, and Areej Al-Sayed.
