As part of the scientific events organized by UQU College of Applied Sciences under the supervision of Dr. Hatem bin Muhammad At-Tass, the Dean, the eighth and last scientific forum
of the Biology Department for the second semester was held on Wednesday, 16th Shaaban 1439H
under the theme:
Biosystematic Studies of the Saudi Plectranthus (Lamiaceae).

Professor of Plant and Flora Classification at the Biology Department
The event was held in the presence of a number of Al-Abediyah, Az-Zaher and Al-Aziziyah staff members at the Biology Department, as well as the interested in such forum.
Prof. Dr. Qadry Abdulkhaleq started the event with the definition of Plectranthus (Lamiaceae). He said it was a medical plant prevalent in the Southern Region in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It belonged to the deadnettle family which included mint, thyme, marjoram and basil. He added that it was an aromatic plant with a beautiful pungent odor and several health benefits, and that it was planted to decorate gardens and road edges.
The professor also stated that Plectranthus (Lamiaceae) was used to treat some cases such as otitis, vitiligo and skin allergies. Moreover, results proved that KSA contained seven types of the plant, one of which was being recorded as new.
Following the forum, a scientific discussion was raised between the attendees and Prof. Dr. Qadry Abdulkhaleq.
At the end of the event, Prof. Dr. Abdulkhaleq was honored by Prof. Dr. Basem bin Hussein Asghar, Vice-Dean of the College for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, with an appreciation shield for his participation in the presentation of such forum.
