In coordination with the Department of Chemistry at the College of Applied Sciences, two workshops on the E-Learning Portal were organized for the benefit of all staff members at the Department. In this regard, a meeting presented by Dr. Al-Asaad Qassem Al-Sumeirany was held for the male staff members at the University City in Al-Abediyah. It was attended by Dr. Ismael Al-Thaqafy, Head of the Department, and Dr. Ahmad Al-Dafrawy, College Nominee for the Deanship’s Accredited Trainer Plan. Simultaneously, another meeting presented by Ms. Areej Banjar was held for the female staff members at the University City in Al-Zaher. It was attended by Dr. Tahany Ba-Wazir, Assistant Head of the Physics Department. It is worth mentioning that the two meetings were held on Monday, 2nd April 2018 (16th Rajab 1439H) in the presence of Dr. Ahmad Hamid, Vice-Dean of E-Learning for Technical Affairs.
At the beginning of the introductory meeting, an overview of the Deanship’s programs during the current academic year was presented. Such programs aimed to hold introductory workshops and meetings on the utilization of the Learning Management System and its tools. Moreover, the workshop discussed three themes: e-learning significance and UQU’s available infrastructure, course management method, learning environment and e-content building way.
After an introduction about the significance of e-learning, the first topic of the workshop was discussed. It tackled the basics of e-learning and the introduction of “Learning” Platform provided by UQU for students and staff members. Besides, it explained the various available tools and the contents of the system homepage such as: news, settings, calendar, blog, and email. Moreover, the methods to access the educational content, manage courses and tags, use delivery folder tools, and link tools to facilitate student assessment and scoring were explained. As regards the e-learning environment and content building and creation, light was shed on the way to put electronic course content on students' behalf. In the same context, a simplified explanation of the material uploading mechanisms, and the method to divide a course into lectures, according to weeks of teaching or by academic units was provided.
It is worth mentioning that such meeting was organized within an introductory program prepared by the Deanship of E-Learning and Distance Education to visit the various colleges. The excellent implementation of such program has been a major concern to Dr. Khaled bin Hatem Al-Mutairy, Dean of E-Learning and Distance Education.
