The Deanship of E-Learning and Distance Education at Umm Al-Qura University carried out a successful experiment to release Qur'an Recitation Sessions in Maqra'at Ibn Al-Mubarak via the virtual classroom system of the "Blackboard" electronic learning system. The sheikhs were trained to use the Collaborate virtual classroom system on the Blackboard system. Two students of Sheikh Bilal Riyad Barakat from outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, more specifically Bangladesh, were engaged in the recitation sessions, as well as another student from Tanzania. In addition, another session was also carried out inside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The trial sessions were attended by Ibrahim bin Mustafa Qabisi and Mr. Alawi Rusuli Buqas, with the follow-up of the General Supervisor of the Maqra'at Ibn Al-Mubarak, Dr. Ahmad bin Abdullah Al-Furaih, and the supervision and attendance of the team of the Deanship of E-Learning and Distance Education.
This trial initiative was well received by teachers and students. It facilitated the learning of Qur'an recitation for the students, who previously relied on free applications not intended for educational purposes. His Excellency the Dean of E-Learning and Distance Education, Dr. Khalid bin Hatim Al-Mutairi, indicated that this experimental initiative comes within the role of the deanship in reflecting the usual image of Umm Al-Qura University with regard to spreading knowledge, especially with regard to the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him). He lauded the great support the deanship receives from the University President, Prof. Abdullah bin Omar Bafail, and the UQU leaders.
