The College of Applied Sciences, Represented by the Department of Biology, Held an Event Entitled: ‘Genetics: The Secret of Life’
This event took place on Wednesday, 30 Rabi` Al-Awwal 1441 A.H. It mainly shed light on the basic forms of some genetic diseases in terms of explaining their causes, the symptoms associated with them, and the ways in which they are transmitted from parents to offspring. It also covered the basics of genetics and the chemical basis of heredity.
It also discussed the subject of genetic mutations, as well as its types and causes with regard to the diseases related to the dominant and recessive genes, and the genes associated with chromosome (X). It also tackled the subject of cell division and its types that are related to causing some genetic diseases, in addition to the technique of cloning and DNA fingerprinting, and the role it plays in criminal investigation.
Moreover, in order to avoid genetic diseases and limit their spreading, the event addressed the subject of premarital screening and its role in reducing the prevalence of diseases that have exhausted countries and individuals.
In conclusion, the Vice Dean of the College of Applied Sciences expressed her thanks to the Department for the efforts they made in organizing this event, which would improve the society, raise awareness, and by Allah's Will create a disease-free community environment.
