On the occasion of the International Day of Medical Physics, the College of Applied Sciences, represented by the Department of Physics, held an event entitled "Your Health is a Responsibility" on Monday, corresponding to 21 Rabi` Al-Awwal, 1441 A.H.
The event aimed to increase community awareness in a manner that achieves the objectives and mission of the college in serving society. The event included a number of corners that addressed the following:
- A corner about how to make electrocardiography, as well as reviewing how to count calories and its degree of impact on the percentage of fats and cholesterol that affect the heart. Female attendees were introduced to the effect of headphones on the ears. Also, the female students calculated the number of the audio units for the female attendees, through a special application.
- A corner about raising awareness of osteoporosis and the factors affecting bone health, as well as healthy lifestyles, in addition to illustrating the effect of the harm of wearing high heels for long periods of time and reviewing the neural signals emitted from the brain and how to measure and explain them.
- A corner about the types of radiation and their sources. Because the word "radiation" frightens people, the female students introduced the female attendees to the natural sources of radiation surrounding us in food, air, water and our bodies, some of which are used in different medical applications, food sterilization and industrial applications. Moreover, the female students clarified the potential biological effects of being exposed to various levels of radiation during different time periods. They also presented an acting scene about the different methods of protection against radiation.
- A corner about nanoparticles, where the female students reviewed how to use them in the field of diagnosis and treatment, their advantages to the traditional methods and how they protect the patient against the side effects on the living cells.
At the end, Her Excellency the Vice Dean of the college expressed thanks to the department for their efforts exerted in organizing and presenting the event.
