The World Diabetes Day was launched on Tuesday 7th Rabi’I 1438H in Leith Governorate. The event was organized by Al-Leith General Hospital in cooperation with the College of Health Sciences in Leith. The campaign was launched with the motto “Let’s Protect Our Future!” The event was attended by Dr. Tarik Zafar, Dean of College of Health Sciences in Leith, Dr. Anas Siraj Abdurrahman Dabloul, Vice-Dean for Academic Affairs, Prof. Tariq bin Ahmad Al-Ayyafy, Manager of Al-Leith General Hospital, as well as Mr. Ali Hamed Az-Zubaidy, Supervisor of Health Centers in Al-Leith Governorate.
The inauguration involved a presentation through which some statistics about diabetes and advices for patients were demonstrated. Moreover, the participating doctors stressed the significance of diabetes early diagnosis, obesity, high blood pressure and high blood triglycerides treatment, and long term comprehensive care. This would result in the avoidance of complications such as diabetic kidney failure, retinopathy, neuropathy, cardiomyopathy, atheroma, cerebrovascular accident, and cardiac arrest. In the same context, the discussions included the ways to control diabetes, methods of diabetes’ laboratory diagnosis, significance of Hemoglobin A1C - Hb A1C test, objectives of the World Diabetes Day, and the important role played by youth to spread health culture concerning the introduction and prevention of diabetes.
