Prof. Hany Al-Moalem, Associate Professor and Consultant of Internal and Rheumatic Diseases, Vice-Dean of the College of Medicine, and Supervisor of Al-Zaidi Chair of Research in Rheumatic Diseases, presented a special database for rheumatism patients at the Emirates Society of Rheumatology Conference which was held on 13-15th October 2016.
The database application has been a major objective of the Chair, as it represents a new kind of initiatives in KSA. Such database has been contributed to by about 400 rheumatism patients at Dr. Soliman Fakeeh Hospital in Jeddah. The database was presented to Saudi and Emirati rheumatologists.
The technology of the database is being currently developed, and therefore generalized inside interested hospitals and medical centres in KSA. Dr. Talal Al-Matiri, Intern, presented a scientific sheet about a rare medical case titled, “Case of Rituximab use in patient with Ankylosing Spondylitis after failure of anti TNF alpha Therapy.”
The sheet was presented during last October at two conferences: "European Society of Rheumatology and Autoimmunity Conference in Toulouse, France" (oral presentation), and the "Fourth Global Conference for Rheumatology and Arthritis in Barcelona, Spain" (scientific poster).
During 13-15th November 2016 a scientific sheet will be presented at the "American Association of Rheumatology Health Professionals Conference" under the supervision of Dr. Sultanah Abdulaziz, the Chief Researcher, about "Biological Therapy in Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis and Hepatitis."
It is being prepared currently for the fourth Rheumatology Practice Symposium which will be held –God willing- in April 2017 in Jeddah.
It is worth mentioning that such symposium was held in three different cities inside and outside KSA (i.e. Jeddha, Abu Dhabi and Marrakesh). Moreover, the second edition of the book "Skills in Rheumatology” by Prof. Dr. Hany Al-Moalem will be published after the success of its first edition. Five research projects will also be published in well-known scientific journals.
