Applied Linguistics Committee
Overall responsibility
Oversee the Applied Linguistics program, ensuring its quality and relevance to the needs of students and the academic community within the English Department.

At least one meeting per semester

Terms of reference
The functions of the Applied Linguistics Committee are to:
  • Design and update the Applied Linguistics curriculum to reflect the latest developments in the field, including selecting relevant courses, defining learning outcomes, and integrating various applied linguistics methodologies and theories.
  • Review and approve course proposals and modifications to existing courses, considering factors such as student feedback, faculty expertise, and emerging trends in the field of Applied Linguistics.
  • Participate in the recruitment and selection process of faculty members specialized in various areas of Applied Linguistics, as well as providing support for their professional development through workshops, seminars, and research opportunities.
  • Provide guidance and support to students in the Applied Linguistics program, including academic advising, mentoring, and assisting with the selection of courses, research topics, and career paths.
  • Develop assessment methods to evaluate the effectiveness of the Applied Linguistics program, including student learning outcomes, program goals, and the overall quality of teaching and learning. This may involve conducting regular program reviews and implementing necessary changes based on the assessment results.
  • Encourage and support faculty and students to engage in research and scholarly activities in the field of Applied Linguistics, including the publication of research papers, participation in conferences, and collaboration with other institutions or research centres.
  • Support linguistic analysis and practical application of linguistic theories in real-world contexts, such as language teaching, language assessment, language policy, and language planning.
  • Arrange workshops, seminars, and guest lectures focused on applied linguistics research and its practical applications, fostering discussions and providing exposure to innovative applied linguistics methodologies and practices.
  • Develop partnerships and collaborations with other universities, language institutions, and organizations involved in language education and language policy, creating opportunities for student and faculty exchanges, joint research projects, and other collaborative initiatives in the field of Applied Linguistics.
