Twenty-five (25) male and female students from the College of Public Health and Health Informatics participated in the evaluation of the Green Hajj Camp Project for the Hajj season of 1440 A.H., which is supervised by the Environment and Health Research Department in the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Institute for Hajj and Umrah Research. The project aims at protecting the holy sites, implementing the alternatives for the management of solid waste at the sites, and maintaining the health of the pilgrims to the Ka`bah (the Great Mosque of Makkah) and the service providers by executing several initiatives, including the initiatives of sorting waste, washing and purifying hands, providing healthy pre-made meals, water-consumption rationalization, implementing safe shaving techniques and using echo-friendly antiseptics.
The institute held a training course for all male and female students in the research camp affiliated to the institute under the direct supervision of His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Faisal Al-Siba`i, the Head of the Environment and Health Research Department. During the course, the students were introduced to the mechanism of implementing the initiatives of the Green Camp project, according to the procedural guide of the project. This was in addition to the mechanism of evaluating the implementation of the project in (35) of the pilgrims' camps at the holy site of Mina, and evaluating the satisfaction of a sample of the pilgrims participating in this project, whose number exceeded forty thousand pilgrims.
This partnership between the College of Public Health and Health Informatics and the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Institute for Hajj and Umrah Research comes as a result of the joint cooperation that was agreed-upon during the visit paid by His Excellency the Dean of the College, Dr. Ahmad bin Omar Babalgith, to the institute in which he met His Excellency Dr. Basim bin Omar Qadi, the Dean of the Institute. During the visit, the two parties agreed-upon many themes that contribute to achieving the goals and the mission of Umm Al-Qura University in serving the Makkan society, especially the pilgrims, those performing Umrah and the visitors of the two holy mosques.
