The Journal of Umm Al-Qura University for Medical Sciences (JUQUMS) is committed to maintaining the highest integrity level in the published content. The journal follows the Committee (COPE) of Publication ethics guidelines and its principles on how to deal with acts of misconduct, thereby committing to investigate allegations of misconduct to ensure research integrity. The content published in this journal is peer-reviewed (Single Blinded).

Ethical approval and consent to participate

Manuscripts reporting studies involving human participants, human data, or human tissue must:

• include a statement on ethical approval and consent (even where the need for approval was waived).

• include the name of the ethics committee that approved the study and the committee’s reference number if appropriate.

Studies involving animals must include a statement on ethics approval.

If your manuscript does not report on or involve the use of any animal or human data or tissue, please state “Not applicable” in this section.

Consent for publication

If your manuscript contains a person’s data in any form (including any individual details, images, or videos), consent for publication must be obtained from that person, or in the case of children, their parent, or legal guardian. All presentations of case reports must have consent for publication.

An institutional consent form could be used. The form should not be sent to us on submission, but we may request to see a copy at any stage (including after publication).

If your manuscript does not contain data from any person, please state “Not applicable” in this section.

According to WAME (World Association of Medical Editors), a conflict of interest (COI) arises when a person's obligations to scientific and publishing activities and their private interests (competing interests) diverge to the point where a reasonable observer might question whether the person's actions or decisions were influenced by their competing interests.

Specific guidelines related to conflicts of interest include:

• Authors must disclose any financial or relevant interests that could have influenced the manuscript's development.
• Reviewers must disclose and abstain from reviewing any manuscript that presents a conflict of interest.
• Editors must avoid manuscripts with potential conflicts of interest. These manuscripts will be reassigned to different editors.
