The UQU scientific chairs were established at the beginning of 1431 A.H., and were supervised by the Vice Deanship of the Institute of Consulting Research and Studies for Scientific Chairs.
In 1435 A.H., the Deanship of Scientific Research was established, the research outlets at Umm Al-Qura University were re-structured, and the Vice Deanship of Scientific Chairs became affiliated to the Deanship of Scientific Research. As part of this action, some of the items of the procedural bylaw were rephrased, such as the procedures for establishing and evaluating scientific chairs and the mechanism of following up and documenting their achievements. In addition, much effort started to be exerted in the field of research production, resulting in the name of the scientific chairs being changed to research chairs.
