First Summer Training for the Students of the Department of Islamic Architecture

The course aims to study and analyze an existing urban heritage environment or a local slum area to identify the building materials used and to study their characteristics, distinctive features and constituent components at the architectural and urban levels. The environment under study is then analyzed and documented by preparing architectural and planning drawings and photographs in the form of a report and final presentation. Building on this, the study also presents proposals for urban development, rehabilitation, and use, as appropriate, within the framework of specific criteria.

The following instructions are for students of the Department of Islamic Architecture for only the second summer training.

1. Rules and Instructions for the Distance Summer Training

The training plan depends on achieving the following percentage of training in each of the themes mentioned below:

First theme: Virtual field training (60%).
Second theme: Specialized courses (20%).
Third theme: Skill development courses (20%).

The first theme: Virtual field training (60%).)

Under direct supervision with the academic supervisor.
Compliance with the requirements of the Summer Training Administration in the department.
Working on a design project related to Coronavirus (COVID-19)
A biweekly report should be submitted to the supervisor outlining the work achieved during the previous two weeks and a plan for finishing the remaining tasks for the next two weeks.
During the summer training, students will be exposed to various tactics and strategies in dealing with the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic in public buildings, based on preventive measures and guidelines of the World Health Organization and the Ministry of Health to control the outbreak of the disease. This is a pilot project implemented to investigate the possibilities of adapting the measures, taking into account the operation of these buildings. Innovation is part of the project requirements, as ideas and solutions have to be proposed to ensure safe use of the place.

The second theme: Specialized courses (20%)

The student should select an academic subject from the approved list in their department with a minimum of 20 training hours.

Each academic subject will be held at a specific time, so care should be to check the time of the appointments.

The form for summarizing the academic subject should be filled out (Arabic/English) using the computer, and five training hours shall be credited upon completion of the summary.
The summary should be submitted on the achievement form within three days from the date of attendance, for the hours to be calculated for the student.
Students should select another academic subject from the list and follow the previous steps until they complete at least 20 hours in this theme.
Every 150 words of summary will equal one credit hour.

The third theme: Skill development courses (at least 20 hours)

The student should select academic subjects from the schedule below with a minimum of 20 training hours.

The form for summarizing the academic material should be filled out using the computer (Arabic/English), and the training hours shall be credited according to the schedule.
The summary should be submitted on the achievement form for the hours to be calculated for the student within three days from the date of attendance.
Students should select another academic subject from the list and follow the previous steps until they complete at least 20 hours in this theme.
The summary is calculated on the basis that every 150 words will equal one credit hour.
