Summer Training for the Students of the Electrical Engineering Department

1. Rules and instructions for the Distance Summer Training

The training plan relies on completing at least 130 learning and training hours covering the following themes (axes):

  • First theme: Virtual field training (at least 40 hours).
  • Second theme: Specialized courses (at least 30 hours).
  • Third theme: Skills development courses (at least 10 hours).
  • Fourth theme: Training exercises (at least 20 hours).

The first theme: Virtual field training (at least 40 hours)

  • Students should select a subject from the approved list in their department (Electrical Engineering Department) with a minimum of 40 training hours.

  • Students can submit an application to add a new academic subject to the list.
  • Students should attend the sessions covering the academic subject at the time specified in the schedule.
  • The form for summing up the academic material should be filled out (Arabic - English) using the computer, and the training hours shall be approved according to the schedule.
  • The summary should be submitted on the achievement form within three days from the date of attendance for the hours to be calculated for the student.
  • Submit only one summary for each course (not session), each summary including at least 100 words.
  • Students should select another academic subject from the list and follow the previous steps until they complete at least 40 hours at this theme.
  • The schedule will be updated weekly with any newly approved academic subject.

Second theme: Specialized courses (at least 30 hours)

  • Students should select a subject from the approved list in their department with a minimum of 30 training hours.

Third theme: Skills development courses (at least 10 hours)

  • Students should select a subject from the approved list in their department (Electrical Engineering Department) with a minimum of 10 training hours.

Fourth theme: Training exercises (at least 20 hours)

  • Students should select, in coordination with the academic staff member registering the training, an exercise of their specialization via the Blackboard system or any available electronic method.
  • Models provided by the department can be used, or an application to add a new project can be made.

  • Work steps are set to complete the training exercise. These steps will be scheduled over eight weeks.

  • The form for summing up the achieved work and the lessons learned (Arabic - English) should be filled out using the computer by the end of the second week, along with a plan for the coming two weeks. Five credit hours will be approved in this regard.

  • The subject summary should be uploaded on the achievement form every two weeks in order to outline the work achieved during the previous two weeks and the tasks remaining for the next two weeks. This will be implemented in order to calculate the training hours for the students.
  • Students should repeat the previous steps until they complete 20 hours in this field, which constitutes the entire period of the training.

2. Beginning of training for all students

  • The student must start the summer training on 15 Shawwal, 1441 A.H., corresponding to 7 June, 2020 A.C.

3. Duration of the summer training

  • The duration of the summer training is 45 working days, during which 130 hours should be competed in the manner previously described.

4. Additional hours above the minimum:

  • Any additional training hours exceeding the minimum (i.e. more than 130 hours) accomplished by the student during the training period shall be calculated for them as extra credit which will not exceed a total of 10 marks, provided that the achievement is delivered following the steps indicated in the above themes.

5. General instructions:

  • In the event that the student does not respond and the completed hours are not sent on an ongoing basis, it will be considered negligence. This may result in receiving a "Denied" grade for the current course if absence continues for a period exceeding two weeks (according to the laws and regulations).
  • After the minimum number of hours has been completed in each theme, students will still have 30 hours left which can be spent in any of the available themes.
  • If there is duplication or significant matching between completion reports or final reports, or if there is plagiarism from internet sites, this will be considered cheating. Consequently, the achievement or report will be canceled for the parties involved in the cheating, which will not be tolerated.
  • All reports of the second summer training should be in English. As for the first summer training, the student has the choice to write in Arabic or in English.
  • Inquiries should be sent to the Summer Training Administration on the related inquiry form.

6. Student duties during training

  • Summer training should begin on the specified date.
  • Students should choose training hours in each theme and follow the instructions in order to be credited hours.
  • There are training hours that should be attended at specific times (live virtual meetings) according to the attached schedule in each theme, which is regularly updated on the website to easily follow it up.
  • Being committed in submitting completion forms on time as previously indicated, in order to update the achievement file on the website on a weekly basis. This will enable the student to see the number of completed hours.
  • The achievement summary should be set to 150 words for each hour of completion (for example, if three hours are completed, the student should write a summary of 450 words).
  • Ensuring that the minimum hours are completed in each theme.
  • The student should contact the supervisor about any note sent to them at the university email (please ensure that it is active).
  • Contacting and coordinating with the supervisor (the academic staff member registered in the training) to determine the training exercises in any field of specialization.

7. Duties of the Summer Training Administration

  • Receiving students' achievements and creating plagiarism reports.
  • Distributing achievements to academic supervisors on a weekly basis.
  • Updating the student achievement file on a weekly basis.
  • Reviewing requests to add new academic subjects, as well as approving them and updating schedules accordingly.
  • Responding to student inquiries sent on the inquiry form.
  • Updating the website on a daily basis, if necessary.

8. Duties of the academic training supervisor during training

  • Receiving, reviewing, and evaluating weekly achievements.

  • Contacting students via email or the Blackboard system to clarify notes with feedback, if necessary.
  • Arranging and coordinating with students to define training exercises in any area of specialization, and providing support and follow-up in completing them.
  • For the graduating students during only the summer semester, the final report will be received directly from them and will be corrected and evaluated according to the distribution below. The evaluation should be sent to the Training Department to expedite the graduation process. The students should submit their report via the ‘Achievement Form’.
  • The final report is evaluated out of 100 marks; they are distributed as follows:
    • 25 marks for the introduction
    • 25 marks for the conclusion
    • 25 marks for the order and correlation of the report
    • 25 marks for the quality of writing and content

9. Student duties after training

  • The student should submit the final report within a month and a half after the end of the summer semester. The report should include a summary of the training obtained and the themes covered, in the form of an integrated technical report.
