The Department of English at Al-Leith Holds an Introductory Meeting for the New Students of the Academic Year 1442 A.H.

The Department of English Language at Al-Leith University College held an introductory meeting for the new students of the academic year 1442 A.H. at the department. The meeting was supervised by the Head of the Department, His Excellency Dr. Makhalad bin Uwaid Al-Saeedi, and took place on Wednesday, 28 Muharram 1442 A.H., corresponding to 16 September 2020. This event was attended by the new students of the department who are enrolled in the current academic year.

After the royal anthem was played and some Qur'anic verses were recited, His Excellency discussed a number of topics, including the following:

  • An overview about the Department of English Language at Al-Leith University College, since its foundation.
  • The major goals of the department, most notably among them, as stated by His Excellency, is to graduate distinguished scientific cadres while at the same time contributing to the preparation, training, and qualification of English language teachers, in line with the Saudi Vision 2030.
  • The importance of learning the English language, particularly for scientific, research, commercial and communication purposes.
  • A correct explanation of the study plan was also presented to the students, dividing the main plan into five basic levels, which are represented by the language courses: (speaking, listening, writing, reading, and syntax), and the two courses: Introduction to Language and Introduction to Literature, which will qualify the students to register in the Literature and Linguistics courses. Moreover, there are the advanced level courses in translation, and finally the general courses taken by the students of the Department of English Language along with the students of the other academic departments at Al-Leith University College.

Finally, His Excellency concluded the meeting with his wishes for his students to achieve excellence and success in their quest for knowledge in the department, under his supervision. His Excellency also provided the opportunity for the attendees to ask questions and put their views forward, and urged them to contact him via his university email should they encounter any problem after the meeting.

This meeting is part of a series of advising and orientation activities that the department provides to its students throughout the academic year.
