In recognition of the importance of cooperation between institutions and the desire to benefit from local expertise and the use of available abilities and capabilities, Umm Al Qura University has signed a memorandum of understanding in the field of environment with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture. According to the memorandum, UQU shall direct research and studies toward environmental issues. It shall also offer academic programs, such as diplomas and bachelor's degrees related to the environment. In addition, it shall coordinate the implementation of programs of environmental awareness and its importance, and spread environmental knowledge. The university also shall provide technical advisory services in the environmental field.
The agreement was signed on behalf of the university by His Excellency the Vice President of Educational Affairs, Prof. Abdulaziz Suruji, His Excellency Dr. Essam Bazar`ah, the Dean of Community College, and His Excellency the Vice Dean of the Research Projects in the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Institute for Hajj and Umrah Research, Dr. Mazin Al-Shamarani. Moreover, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture was represented by His Excellency the Deputy Minister for Environment, Dr. Usamah Faqiha.
At the end of the meeting, the two parties agreed to form a working group headed by Dr. Abdul-Rahman Hariri, representing the ministry, and Dr. Essam Bazar`ah, representing the university, to develop the executive plans and work to achieve the terms of the agreement.
