Abstract:
The study aimed at assessing early intervention programs for students with mental retardation in Saudi from the point of view of families who are reconvening services and its relationship with variables such as gender of the child, age of the child and the experience of trainers. In order to accomplish the goal, the researcher designed a survey to assess early intervention programs in Saudi, which consisted of two areas, the goals of the program and the trainers. Validity and reliability were calculated for the survey in which it was administered on the sample of the study which consisted of (148) families. The results showed that assessment of early intervention programs provided for children with mental retardation in Saudi from the point of view of families whom children are receiving services was higher in the area of trainers rather than goals. The highest item in the area of trainers “trainers are well dressed and polite during the visits” with a mean of (3.70). However the lowest item was “trainers have the knowledge in designing teaching aids” with a mean of (3.25). In the area of goals, the highest item was “programs provide ongoing and continues assessment” with a mean of (3.60), whereas the lowest item was “my child is provided with a remedial training program (physical therapy and occupational therapy and speech therapy) with a mean of (3.04). Results also showed no significant differences in assessing early intervention programs with regards to gender and age of the child.
