As part of the Digital Initiative held by the Department of Education in Al-Qunfudhah, the Department of Information Technology held the Second Cybersecurity Forum remotely on Tuesday, 17 Sha`ban 1442 A.H.

His Excellency Dr. Muhammad bin Khidr Al-Zailai, the Vice Dean of Admission and Registration and Assistant Professor at the College of Computing in Al-Qunfudhah, participated in the forum with a paper in which he tackled how to disseminate the culture of safe use of the internet and to determine the best practices in the field of cybersecurity. In addition, he clarified the real meaning, importance and basic principles of cybersecurity and explained the systems and services which may be vulnerable to cyberattacks.

During the forum, Dr. Muhammad Al-Zailai touched on the definition, types and basics of social engineering, gave examples of some of the methods of cyber extortion and phishing, and mentioned some of the phishing pages. Moreover, he clarified the importance of raising awareness about the dangers of social engineering and the methods of obtaining passwords from the users, explaining how to create safe passwords and secure them from hackers. Dr. Muhammad Al-Zailai also clarified the two-step verification feature and warned against downloading unreliable software. In concluding, he outlined the benefits and dangers of technology, stressing the importance of utilizing it carefully and cautiously.
