Sponsored by Dean Dr. Yassin Al Zubaid, the Research Unit received the Physics Department faculty members on Wednesday 22/02/2017 A.D.
The meeting was graced by Vice-Dean Mohamed Al Hazemi, Vice-Dean for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research, supervisor of the research unit Dr. Lutfi Debiche, the research unit supervisor Dr. Hakim Ahmed Osman, along with the Physics Department faculty members.
Dr. Al Hazemi inaugurated the meeting stressing the importance of scientific research for faculty members, noting the considerable number of competent scientific and research cadres in the Department; thus enriching the College.
After that, Dr. Debiche briefed participants on the research unit, its objectives and future programs, affirming scientific research as one of the key quality indicators.
Then, faculty members held extensive and fruitful discussions, where the department supervisor Dr. Abdul Tawwab Othman reviewed the department's scientific achievements in scientific research; noting that the department has published a great number of scientific researches in globally peer-reviewed journals. "The Department managed to secure finance for a number of projects, from specialized research centers inside and outside UQU.", stated Dr. Othman. He added that the department discusses and constantly keeps pace with the accelerated scientific research and advancements in Physics, in order to keep up with latest achievements in the field, and to ensure quality lectures.
Then, the research unit members held discussions with faculty members on their propositions, which have been documented in the meeting's minutes as part of the unit's activities to be achieved over the next days including:
- Compile the Department's scientific papers in an indexed volume, and consider publishing them on the College's website.
- Organize a scientific day for the department students to discuss the students' projects and motivate them for scientific research.
- Organize a micro forum for scientific departments, with the participation of faculty members, to discuss fields of cooperation between departments.
- Motivate faculty members and hail those who publish new researches in peer-reviewed journals.
At the end, Dr. Al Hazemi expressed his thanks to the research unit's team and participating faculty members, applauding the organization of such events and calling on other departments to sustain them.
Dr. Al Hazemi's words had their great impact on motivating scientific research and the development of researchers. He also praised the Physics Department and its achievements; urging for more, as well as further interactive engagement in academic and scientific activities both inside and outside the College.
