A Delegation from the Permanent Executive Committee to Raise Awareness of the Harmful Effects of Smoking Visits the College

On Thursday morning, 19 Jumada Al-Thani, 1441 A.H., a delegation from the Permanent Executive Committee at Umm Al-Qura University concerned with raising awareness of the harmful effects of smoking visited the college. The committee was formed by a decision of the President of the University, and aims at raising awareness of the harmful effects of smoking and at combating the spread of this phenomenon and its practice within the walls of the university by the students, employees, and faculty members. This is in addition to providing treatment for those afflicted with this bad habit.

The visiting delegation was headed by Dr. Mishaal Al-Sulami, and included three of the committee's members, as follows:

  • Dr. Walid Al-Maliki
  • Dr. Abdul-Rahim Idi
  • Mr. Abdul-Rahman bin Zhafir

The committee held a meeting in the college meeting hall in the presence of the Vice Dean of the College, Dr. Muhammad Marei Al-Hazmi, the Vice Dean of the College for Community Service, Dr. Ali Al-Eissi, and the Vice Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Muhammad bin Ahmad Al-Mathami,

Mr. Ahmed Suni Al-Ghanmi, Chairman of the Tobacco Control Committee in the Directorate of Health Affairs at Al-Qunfudhah, and Mr. Hamzah Al-Halisi, representative of the Kafa Society and member of the Tobacco Control Committee, also attended the meeting.

The objectives of the committee were discussed at the meeting as well as ways to transfer its experience from the main university to the colleges of Al-Qunfudhah branch, in cooperation with the Directorate of Health Affairs at Al-Qunfudhah and the Kafa Society, Al-Qunfudhah.

At the end of the meeting, His Excellency the Vice Dean of Student Affairs in Al-Qunfudhah, Dr. Muhammad Al-Mathami was chosen as the coordinator of the college branches of the society.
