On Wednesday, 8 Rabi` Al-Awwal 1441 A.H., the Department of Mathematics held a special meeting to discuss the cases of academically stumbling students with a GPA less than 1.3. The meeting was held at the University College in Al-Qunfudhah, and was attended by Dr. Salih Al-Zahrani, Head of the Department of Mathematics, His Excellency Dr. Yahya Al-Nashri, Vice Dean for Educational Affairs, faculty members, and academic advisers.
The meeting started by welcoming and thanking the students of the department for responding to the invitation extended by the department for them to attend this meeting. First, the meeting tackled the importance of increasing academic achievement, and raising the GPA to comply with the statutory period specified in the university regulations for the students of the department. Next, the meeting shed light on the main reasons for academic failure experienced by some students, and possible solutions were identified.
The meeting concluded by clarifying the services provided by the Academic Advising Unit in the department, which contribute significantly to assisting the at-risk students who are stumbling academically.
