At 11 a.m., on Tuesday, 1 Rabi` Al-Awwal 1441 A.H., the Activities and Events Unit at the College of Community Service and Continuing Education (female section), in cooperation with the General Directorate of Health Affairs in Makkah and on the occasion of the World Breast Cancer Day, launched a campaign to prevent breast cancer entitled, "Have a Checkup Now for Your Safety". The event, which was part of the events in October, took place in Lady Khadijah Hall.
The campaign aimed to raise health awareness and the need for early detection of breast cancer among college employees in general, and female students in particular. Dr. Buthainah Abdul-Shakur and Dr. Daniah Qutb gave a lecture in which they talked about breast cancer, risk factors, how it is diagnosed, the symptoms and signs, how to prevent and treat it, and the lifestyles that reduce the likelihood of having breast cancer. They also pointed out the correct method of self-examination of the breast, the impact of the disease on the psychological and economic state of the person, and the importance of early detection of breast cancer to prevent the disease, Allah willing. Moreover, three health educators: Amal Abdul-Qadir Habab, Fatma Abdul-Muttilb, and Hamsah Ali Al-Umari, participated in the event. Next, Maha, a student from the Diploma Department, recounted her story and struggle with the disease, with courage, from when she first discovered it, in the early stages, until she was completely cured.
The attendants' questions and inquiries were duly answered. The event witnessed a large attendance due to the importance of the subject for each female. Moreover, thanks to Allah and then the efforts that were exerted, the campaign gained the response and approval of all attendees. It contained visual and awareness presentations, and various corners for the purpose of comprehensive awareness. Furthermore, brochures and awareness leaflets were distributed to increase education and awareness.
At the end of the campaign, the Vice Dean of the College of Community Service and Continuing Education for Educational Affairs, Her Excellency Dr. Faizah bint Muhammad Al-Harbi, thanked all who participated in the success of this campaign, from the team and honored guests. She gave the medical team of doctors and educators certificates of thanks and appreciation along with bouquets of flowers, praised the efforts that were exerted, and prayed for the health and safety of all.
