Events of the Second Day of the Sixth Conference for Teaching and Learning Mathematics

The sixth session opened at 9 a.m. and was chaired by the Vice Dean of the College of Education, Prof. Murdi bin Ghurmullah Al-Zahrani. Dr. Fahd Al-Zahrani, Assistant Director of Education in Makkah Al-Mukrramah Region for Educational Affairs, Dr. Khalid Al-Maatham, and Dr. Sulaiman Al-Rajhi from the National Commission for Academic Accreditation and Assessment (NCAAA), participated in the session.

The seventh session was chaired by Dr. Khalid Asiri from Al-Baha University. Dr. Sa`id Al-Manofi and Dr. Khalid Al-Maatham from Qassim University participated with a working paper: Reviewing the Book "Compendium for Research in Mathematics Education” (NCTM, 2017) Ms. Haya Al-Jinah from the General Directorate of Education in Wadi Al-Dawaser participated with a working paper on “Mathematics Forum and Information Retrieval.” Mr. Omar Ibrahim from the General Directorate of Education in Taif presented a working paper on the effectiveness of using the Golden Boat Game Model in understanding mathematical concepts and learning impact retention for first grade students at Al Mughirah Ibn Shu`bah primary school in Taif. Mr. Ghamdan Al-Ba`dani from the General Directorate of Education in Riyadh presented a paper on the effectiveness of the use of the Wasif program in assessing students' performance in local mathematics tests, and Ms. Wijdan Al-Warhi from General Directorate of Education in Riyadh participated with a working paper on the development of an educational mathematics unit for the fifth grade in light of the STEM trend. Ms. Wajdan Al-Warhi from the General Directorate of Education in Riyadh presented a working paper on the effectiveness of teaching using the Differentiated Instruction approach on the academic achievement of third-year high school female students at secondary schools (scientific section) in Yanbu.

The eighth session was chaired by His Excellency Dr. Abdul-Aziz Al-Maliki from Najran University, and the participants included Dr. Rasha Hashim from Majmaah University, who presented a working paper on the effectiveness of the use of cloud computing applications in education through the introduction of STEM subjects to develop students' life skills related to teaching mathematics and to enhance the tendency towards scientific study among second grade intermediate students. Mr. Abdul-Hamid Hashmi and Mr. Ibrahim Khalil from the General Directorate of Education in Sibya participated with a working paper on the employment of Ausubel's Learning theory to enhance academic achievement and mathematical problems solving using "a proposed model.” Ms. Nadia Al-Utaibi from the General Directorate of Education in Riyadh presented a working paper on the impact of the Generative Learning Model in mathematics when teaching to the student's academic achievement and the development of mathematical communication skills among fourth grade students at primary schools. Dr. Muhammad bin Hamad Al-Hassan from the General Directorate of Education in Al-Ahsa' resented a paper on the initiative to employ digital applications in the teaching and learning of mathematics in the General Directorate of Education in Al-Ahsa'. Ms. Khamisah Al-Abbad from the General Directorate of Education in Al-Sharqiyah and Dr. Khalid Al-Shahri from Imam Abdul-Rahman bin Faisal University presented a working paper on a proposed solution for the problem of weak mathematics achievement among high school students from the point of view of secondary school teachers. Ms. Abir Al-Qahtani from the General Directorate of Education in Al-Sharqiyah participated with a paper on education using project-based learning strategy and linking it to the inverted grade strategy using Differentiated Instruction (DI) strategies to develop critical thinking skills in mathematics.

The ninth session was chaired by His Excellency Dr. Bandar Al-Matiri from the General Directorate of Education in Jeddah and the participants included Ms. Sana' Al-Ghamdi Manair Al-Hamid from the General Directorate of Education in Riyadh, and Dr. Latifa Al-Sumairi from King Saud University, who presented a paper entitled “Mathematics Curriculum for Grades 1-6 in Singapore: Analytical and Critical Developmental Vision.” Ms. Afaf Al-Sabahi, from the General Directorate of Education in Yanbu participated with a paper entitled “Effectiveness of the use of the Paulia strategy in solving mathematical problems to develop academic achievement in solving verbal problems in science and mathematics among students of the second grade intermediate students in Yanbu.” Ms. Fatin Al-Dussari from the General Directorate of Education in Afif participated with a paper on the reality of creative thinking in mathematics teaching according to STEM education from the point of view of the teachers. Ms. Haya Al-Wahaibi, a Mathematics Supervisor at the General Directorate of Education in Riyadh, presented a paper entitled “TI-Nspire Lab using graphing calculator technology in secondary schools in Riyadh.” Ms. Hamdah Al-Najrani and Ms. Mona Al-Nafi'i from the General Directorate of Education in Al-Sharqiyah and Dr. Khalid Al-Shahri from Imam Abdul-Rahman bin Faisal University participated with a paper on the reality of using iEN, the Kingdom's National Educational Portal, in mathematics teaching from the point of view of secondary school teachers. Ms. Nisrin Al-Shun from the General Directorate of Education in Yanbu presented a paper on the reality of the use of YouTube by mathematics teachers in explaining mathematical concepts.

The tenth session was chaired by Mr. Fayiz Al-Nafa`i from the General Directorate of Education in Makkah and Ms. Samia Al-Junhi and Ms. Abir Ka`ki from the General Directorate of Education in Yanbu, who participated with a working paper on the effectiveness of "discovering the different” questions to raise the level of academic achievement in mathematics for intermediate level students. Ms. Ikhlas Al-Dhuaib from the General Directorate of Education in Al Jouf presented a paper on the role of e-learning in the development of professional performance and mathematics achievement. Mr. Abdul-Aziz Ali Al-Hazimi from the General Directorate of Education in Yanbu presented a paper on the mathematics stars market. Ms. Manair Al-Hamid and and Ms. Rana Al-Husain from the General Directorate of Education in Riyadh presented a paper on the impact of participatory teaching on the mathematics achievement of second grade intermediate students in Riyadh. Ms. Munirah Al Kulthum from the General Directorate of Education in Riyadh presented a paper on the effectiveness of graphic design in enrichment training to develop students' reasoning skills in mathematics for fifth grade students at civic schools in Riyadh.
