His Excellency the President of Umm Al-Qura University, Prof. Abdullah bin Omar Bafail, has honored the outstanding students of Al-Qunfudhah College of Computer Science. This year, ten outstanding students from all academic levels were honored for their excellence - four men and six women. On Tuesday, 19 Rabi` Al-Awwal, 1440 A.H. corresponding to 27 November 2018, a special awards ceremony was held for the occasion. The ceremony was organized by the College of Health Sciences in Al-Qunfudhah and was attended by his Excellency the Governor of Al-Qunfudhah, Prof. Fada Al-Baqmi, and the Director of Education of Al-Qunfudhah region, his Excellency, Dr. Muhammad Al-Zahmy, in addition to several officials, UQU vice presidents, college deans and affiliates, and the students' parents.
The awards ceremony celebrated the outstanding achievements of 740 students in the various fields of scientific and theoretical specialties at the University College, the College of Health Sciences, the College of Medicine, the College of Engineering, and the College of Computer Science in Al-Qunfudhah.
During the ceremony, the 740 students received certificates of merit and commemorative shields. The program began with a Qur’anic recitation, followed by an opening address by the Dean of the College of Health Sciences, His Excellency Prof. Omar bin Abdullah Al-Hazzazi. Then, two of the college's students, Omar Al Shaikhi and Halimah Al-Abdali, delivered speeches on behalf of the outstanding students. This was followed by a word of appreciation from his Excellency the Governor of Al-Qunfudhah Governorate, Dr. Fada Al-Baqmi, in which he expressed his pride in this academic success, highlighting its substantial contribution to realizing the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.
In his speech, His Excellency Prof. Abdullah bin Omar Bafail, the President of the University, said, “Being here with you on this blessed day is only an expression of my pride and joy in this honorable accomplishment of my sons and daughters, through attaining academic excellence. You are the building blocks for the future, and our country’s best investment for a bright tomorrow. I continue to emphasize the endeavors we are leading in the university so that the students are the centerpiece of our work – a tangible reality and not just an empty slogan.” Then, addressing his students directly, he said, “I congratulate you, my sons and daughters; and I urge you to become noble ambassadors of your university in conduct, knowledge, and performance. Your university will extend its hands to you, to maintain communication with it, being its students and future collaborators. Our country is waiting for you to become scientists, experts, doctors, and engineers who improve their present reality and build their future.”
His Excellency then expressed his appreciation for the support and care provided to Umm Al-Qura University by the Kingdom’s wise leadership to enable them to create a flourishing educational environment. He also expressed his gratitude for the supervision and guidance of His Royal Highness, Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, the Advisor to the Custodian of Two Holy Mosques, the Emir of Makkah, and his Deputy His Royal Highness, Abdullah bin Bandar, who is always keen to ask about the branch of Umm Al-Qura University in Al-Qunfudhah, and any latest developments in the construction of new buildings and the progress of the work there.
