Under the auspices of His Excellency Dr. Yasin bin Abdullah Al-Zubaidi, the Dean of Al-Qunfudhah University College, and with the support of the Vice Deanship of Student Affairs of the Female Section in Al-Qunfudhah, the Arabic Language Club held three days of activities in its annual celebration of the World Arabic Language Day. The slogan of this year, 1440 A.H., was "The Arabic Language and Youth".
The program included a number of events, in which members and students of the Arabic Language Department participated.
The activities started on Sunday, 17 Rabi` Al-Awwal, with three lectures. The first lecture was about the Arabic language and modern challenges, and was presented by Dr. Khadija Kabo. The second, which was presented by Dr. Shadhliyah Al-Sayyid, was about "Language and Identity: A Commentary on Ibn Taymiyyah's Iqtida Al-Sirat Al-Mustaqim [Following the Straight Path]". The third was entitled, "The Arabic Language: For Eternity and not for Extinction", and was presented by Ms. Sherifah Al-Hili and Ms. Sa`diyyah Al-Zayla`i.
The second day of events began on Monday, 18 Rabi` Al-Awwal, with the Knowledge Contest, a cultural contest in which two teams of female students competed. It was presented by Dr. Shadhliyah Al-Sayyid and Ms. Aishah Al-Shihabi. Then, Dr. Amal Abdul-`Al gave a lecture entitled, "The Reality of Language: Between the Holy Qur'an and Youth."
Then the students launched the activities of the campaign, “Do Not Blame Me for Loving It”, under the supervision of Dr. Shadhliyah Al-Sayyid and Ms. Aishah Al-Shihabi. The campaign included posters, brochures, video presentations, and a diverse speech program. It was attended by Her Excellency Dr. Nuwair Bajaber, the Vice-Dean of the University College, who gave a speech about the Arabic language in the different means of social communication. The program was also attended by Her Excellency, Dr. Sharifah Al-Hazimi, the Vice-Dean for Student Affairs, who gave a speech about the club's efforts to establish purposeful activities; praised the interaction of the students with the activities; and presented the prizes and gifts to the students who participated in the talent competition (drawing, photography, writing, designing, elocution, theater and singing).
On the third day, on Wednesday, 20 Rabi` Al-Awwal, the activities included a seminar entitled, “The Role of Youth in Making Arabic the Language of Science and Knowledge”. These activities were carried out by the female students under the supervision of Dr. Rabi`ah Al-Mubarak. Then a lecture was given by Dr. Ikhlas Husayn under the title of, "The Youth's Reluctance toward Arabic".
The event was concluded by a lecture entitled, "Linguistic Dictionary for the Youth in the Digital Age", by Dr. Firyal Al-`Ali.
These events were attended by a large number of female students, who were active in taking part in them.
