In addition, it gives the advisor the chance to offer guidance and support and solve the problems students face in their education, as students play vital roles in helping their academic advisors in realizing their mission to achieve excellence and creativity.
What students need to do:
- Get to know his personal academic advisor
- Students must commit to attending their periodical meetings with their advisors
- Students must ask questions as regards their study plan or their academic affairs, to enlighten and direct them.
- Students are to go to their academic advisors when they face any problems that might hinder their educational progress.
- Students are to provide their academic advisors with their academic records, the warnings they received or any action taken against them, including suspension notices.
- Students are to provide their advisors with their telephone number and email to facilitate contacting them and informing them of academic issues.
- Students should know that their academic advisors are their academic references who regulate their academic and university life as a whole and that they play an important and vital role in guiding and directing them.
- Students should know the important dates and deadlines (timetable) as regards registration dates, cancelling courses, postponing and dropping out courses, exam dates and lecture timetables and other important dates.
- Students should know they are mainly responsible for their academic success or failure, as academic guidance is a tool to offer support, help and advice, as well as removing obstacles and difficulties they might be facing.
- Students are to follow the instructions of their academic advisors, act according to them and not violate them.
- Students should know the office working hours of their academic advisors and how to communicate with them, whether via email or cell phone.
