Abstract:
The current study aimed to reveal the effect of teaching science using the POE strategy in the acquisition of scientific concepts and the development of decision-making skills among sixth-grade students in the city of Taif. The experimental approach based on the quasi-experimental design was used. To achieve these goals, the teacher’s guide was designed to teach the unit of the subject using the POE strategy. The sample consisted of (55) female students, who were distributed into two groups, an experimental group who studied science according to the POE strategy, and a control group who studied the unit. The same way as usual, the two study tools consisted of a test of scientific concepts and a scale of decision-making skills after confirming their psychometric characteristics, they were applied to the students of the two study sample groups, before and after, the results showed a positive impact of a large size for teaching science according to the POE strategy in increasing the students' achievement of scientific concepts and developing decision-making skills, and based on these results, some recommendations were presented, representing. The most important of which is the necessity of training science teachers to use the POE strategy, informing them of their role in achieving educational goals, and directing universities to take this strategy into consideration in the science teacher preparation programs. The study also presented some research proposals related to the use of the POE strategy in science teaching.
