  • What is the specialization of Laboratory Medicine?
    This specialization is responsible for selecting and conducting appropriate diagnostic analyses to contribute to the prevention of diseases and to its treatment. Furthermore, it undertakes the verification of test results and links them to the patient, and also improves and develops the tests and analyses carried out by the laboratory. Among the responsibilities of the graduates of the laboratory medicine program is to manage laboratories, developing their organizational structure and ensuring the quality of the laboratory.
  • What is the study period at the department?
    The duration of study in this specialization is four academic years, in addition to the internship year. The student studies a total number of one hundred and thirty-two credits (132 M) in the four full academic years and the internship year.
  • What is the highest weighted percentage for the male and female students of the Laboratory Medicine Department?
    In 1440-1441 A.H., for male students: ٨٢,٧٣ %- ٩٠,٠٩٦ %, and for female students: ٩٠,٥٣٦%- ٩٨,٦٤
  • What is the mechanism of calculating the scores of attendance?
    There are no separate attendance scores for both theoretical and practical parts of a course. However, absenteeism should not exceed 25% in each of the theoretical and practical parts of a course.
  • Can a student postpone - or apologize for - any semester?
    Yes, a student can postpone classes before the start of the semester. The apology is made during the semester, according to the dates specified by the Deanship of Admission and Registration.
  • When does the student receive a warning?
    The student receives a warning if his GPA is less than 2
  • When is the student expelled from the university?
    The student is expelled from the university for receiving 3 warnings.
  • When is the student deprived from taking the final exam?
    A student is deprived from taking the final exams if the percentage of their absence exceeds 25% of the lectures.
  • What are the extra-curriculum activities available in the department?
    The extra-curriculum activities available in the college are social and cultural activities, and sports activities.
  • Is it possible to take a summer class?
    The Laboratory Medicine Department does not offer a summer class, but general courses only can be studied in the summer semester.
  • When is the training conducted in hospital laboratories?
    Training in hospital laboratories is conducted in the internship year after passing the fourth year study, and it is done in coordination with the College Vice Deanship for Hospital Affairs.
  • What is the mechanism of adding the student to the Dean's honorary list?
    This depends on a number of criteria, including becoming the top of the class, the recommendation of the academic staff, charity work, participating in the activities and events of the college, community service, and others.
  • What are the conditions for getting the first honors degree?
    The first honorary degree is awarded to a student with a cumulative GPA of higher or equivalent to (3.75) at the time of graduation. 2-The second honorary degree is awarded to a student who has a cumulative GPA of (3.25) to less than (3.75) from (4.00) at graduation, in addition to the following conditions: A- The student has not failed in any course of study at the university or in any other university. B- The student must complete the graduation requirements within a maximum period of time between the minimum and maximum stay in the college. C- The student must have studied at the university from which s\he will graduate at least 60% of the graduation requirements.
  • How is the second class honors awarded?
    The second honors degree is awarded to students who obtain a GPA between (3.25) to less than (3.75) out of (4.00) upon graduation. The following conditions should also be fulfilled: the student must not have failed any courses at Umm Al-Qura University or any other university. The student must complete the graduation requirements in a maximum time span equal to the average between the minimum and the maximum time of study at their college. The student must have studied at least 60% of the graduation requirements at the university from which they will graduate.
