Vision
- Attaining excellence in the fields of life sciences and scientific research and developing the cognitive capabilities of the UQU undergraduate and graduate students at the national, regional and international levels.
- Integrating education and continuous practical training in biology for future generations, in line with the Saudi Vision 2030, and achieving community engagement.
- Achieving excellence in the development of professional skills for all the affiliates of the department.
Overview
The Department of Biology offers two programs: the Bachelor of Biology (40100), and the Bachelor of Microbiology (40101). Students earn the bachelor degree after successfully completing 138 credit hours in the biology program, and 136 credit hours in the microbiology program. In the biology program, courses include botany, zoology, and microbiology. In the microbiology program, the courses include the basics of microbiology and its advanced applications.
This diversity allows the students to explore various fields during their study. Thus, if they wish to learn more and venture into postgraduate studies, they will be equipped with strong foundations to continue their academic studies in any of these streams. Moreover, the available work opportunities for the graduates of this department are in diverse fields, including biological labs in food factories, research and development units at pharmaceutical companies, and experimental laboratories, as well as teaching after studying some courses in the field of education.
The biology program is available for both male and female students, but the microbiology program is available for male students only.
