Tasks and Responsibilities of Academic Adviser

The academic adviser has numerous and diverse tasks. He has certain tasks in light of different majors of students. The following are the tasks of the academic adviser.

a- Tasks related to students' guidance aspects as follows:

1-Prepare student's file

 The academic adviser prepares a special file for each request from students who is responsible for supervising them. This file includes the following:

-Student info form

-List of courses for the student

-Registration form (if there is no e-registration)

-A recent copy of academic record or a transcript

-Other administrative documents (for instance course delay forms)

2-General Guidance for Student:

  Guiding the student to whoever can answer his inquiries and discuss the students in the following:

A-Course registration process

The adviser obtains the instructions before the student registration. He studies the student's file and his major and fill in each student's registration form before the registration date. The student comes in seek of advice regarding the selection of courses and understanding the following steps before the adviser puts his signature. The student is directed to the admission and registration department for registering courses on computer. This is in case there is no e-registration for the student.

B- Courses selection

The adviser should use a list of courses while helping students to choose their courses. He must make sure of the following:

-Student has obtained at least (d) rating in all required courses and in requirements needed for studying each course. The student will not be allowed to register a course in which he did not meet its requirements.

 -To know the minimum and maximum hours the student is allowed to meet (student's academic burden)

Study schedule

The adviser must make sure that the students know the location and date of lectures and that there is no contradiction in dates in the student's study schedule.

3-Guiding students to perceive their study status and to a good planning of their academic future.

4-Guiding students to make use of the summer courses and implement the study projects and plans

 

B-Tasks related to student's scientific and academic aspects as follows:

  1. To coordinate with teachers to overcome problems facing students during courses
  2. To help students at the personal level to benefit from their capabilities in education and innovation, in coordination with teachers, supervisors and academics
  3. To encourage students to get involved in academic activities with a view to improving their academic level and activating self-education
  4. To recognize low-achieving and high-achieving students and set proper ways for each case to upgrade their academic level and help the high-achieving students to keep their excellence.

 

C- Tasks related to students' social and behavioral aspects as follows: 

  1. Working to make positive changes in the student's behavior by helping him to accommodate with his social environment and communicate with his peers during regular meetings to guide him on collective interaction values.
  2. To provide psychological counseling during meeting with students at the academic adviser office.
  3. To hold group meetings for students via symposiums with a view to enhancing social and human relations and getting the students closer.
  4. To boost moral support for students by making it easier for them to communicate with the administration and explain their personal and academic problems with a view to reaching effective solutions.

 

Academic Adviser's Administrative Tasks

Mr. Deletion and Addition of Courses:

The adviser has to distribute the form to students who want to make amendments to their original choices during the semester (according to regulations).

B. Exam delay:

The adviser must sign the form for students willing to delay the exam in a certain course.

C: Student's absence:

 Monitoring students' attendance is one of the tasks of the course teacher. The college's policy stipulates that the student will be deprived from attending the final year exam if he is absent for 25% of days.
