In activating the “I am a Role Model” initiative, the College of Computing in Al-Qunfudhah (female section) organized an instructive lecture entitled, “Ethics of Business Dealings in Islam”, within the activities of Umm Al-Qura University’s Empowerment Plan (Tamkeen) for the academic year 1442 A.H. The lecture was held remotely on Thursday, 12 Sha`ban 1442 A.H., via the WebEx platform, and was presented and prepared by Ms. Ilham Basindouh, an academic staff member at the College of Computing in Al-Qunfudhah.
The themes of the lecture revolved around awareness of the necessity of working according to ethical codes, clarifying the status of work and ethics in Islam, and developing interpersonal skills. The most prominent problems in the absence of professional ethical codes in the workplace were also identified along with the factors affecting ethical conduct and the means to overcome professional violations. Moreover, the lecture shed light on the necessary guidelines and directives for the professional code of ethics governing business interaction.
On Sunday, 15 Sha`ban 1442 A.H., an educational course was organized within the activities of the initiative. The course was entitled, "Secrets of Personal Success", and was presented by Dr. Umm Al-Zain Badawi, an academic staff member of the University College in Al-Qunfudhah. The themes of the lecture revolved around the meaning of success, its steps, keys, and the attributes of successful people. The lecture also tackled the means to achieve success, the obstacles hindering its realization, the difference between the Islamic and western perspectives on success, the areas of success, the factors that ensure the achievement of objectives, the techniques to achieve success, and enemies of success. At the end of the lecture, the lecturer gave important tips on how to achieve success.
The initiative was concluded by holding a workshop entitled, “Code of Job Conduct and Public Job Ethics”, on Sunday, 29 Sha`ban 1442 A.H. The workshop was presented and prepared by the female employees: Barakah Al-Ma`aidi, Dawlah Al-Abdali, and Nadia Al-Nashiri. The workshop aimed to discuss the promotion of the professional code of ethics in the workplace, being the key factor in affecting the conduct of public employees, and the basic concepts of professional ethical codes. The principles of the professional code of conduct were clarified and the public job ethics that should be followed were explained as well as the duties, responsibilities, and rights of a public employee.
On her part, Her Excellency Dr. Hanan Al-Ghamdi, the Vice Dean of the College, extended her sincere gratitude and appreciation to Their Excellencies Dr. Umm Al-Zain Badawi and Ms. Ilham Basindouh for their lauded participation in this event. She also expressed her thanks and appreciation to the female employees Barakah Al-Ma`aidi, Dawlah Al-Abdali, and Nadia Al-Nashiri for their commendable participation and notable coordination of the initiative.
