Achievements in 2020: A Virtual Exhibition to Highlight the Skills of the UQU Computer Science Students

The College of Computer and Information Systems at Umm Al-Qura University organized its virtual exhibition ‘Achievements in 2020’, with the participation of 146 students and the presentation of 31 graduation projects.

The exhibition highlighted the scientific capabilities and skills acquired by the participating students and the high quality professionalism gained by them during their university studies. These were mirrored in the diversity of the projects presented in the fields of research and application, programming, hardware design, and computer sensors.

His Excellency the Dean of the College, Dr. Majid Al-Qathami, pointed out the importance of the ‘Achievements in 2020’ exhibition, being one of the college's initiatives launched at the end of the academic year. The aim of the exhibition is to highlight the lauded efforts of the graduates and the scientific, knowledge and skill levels they have acquired, and introduce them as young national cadres who are qualified for the labor market.

He also emphasized that the projects included multiple studies and innovative computer solutions for problems and obstacles in different fields, all of them being characterized by creative ideas and applications that serve the community. Moreover, the projects also demonstrated the high skills of students in research and finding assistive tools. This is in addition to highlighting their language proficiency and communication and dialogue skills, as well as consolidating the spirit of teamwork among the participating students.

On her part, the Vice Dean of the College of Computer and Information Systems, Dr. Sarah Al-Shareef, underlined that the exhibition actually aims to market the college’s outputs and the projects of its students, which were characterized by a high level of quality and mastery this year. She noted that a number of those projects previously participated with scientific papers in refereed journals and international conferences, including the projects that could become the nucleus of future startup companies, testifying to the readiness and qualification of college students for the labor market.

It is noteworthy that the exhibition was held for the fifth time this year in both the male and female student sections, and witnessed a great turnout and intense competition among the participating students.
