The First Scientific Forum of the Vice Deanship for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research Concludes Its Sessions by Formulating Recommendations

The First Scientific Forum of the Vice Deanship for Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research of Al-Qunfudhah University College was held in Al-Qunfudhah on Monday morning, 7 Rajab, 1441 A.H., corresponding to 2 March, 2020 A.C. The second session was held in the Female Section, and was dedicated to the theme of educational and social sciences. It was moderated by Her Excellency Dr. Umm Al-Zain Badawi, Deputy Head of the Department of Education and Psychology, with the participation of a number of the members of the department.

The first paper entitled: "The Effect of Using Brainstorming Strategies to Improve Student Achievement", was presented by Dr. Sahar Al-Sa`di, Associate Professor in the department. Dr. Safiyyah Al-Duqil, Assistant Professor, then presented a paper entitled: "The Serious Creativity Strategy: Between Theory and Application". Next, the Assistant Professor Dr. Areej Al-Hazmi presented a paper entitled: "The Strategy of Dialogue and Discussion in University Teaching". The session concluded with a paper entitled: "Pragmatic Competence and Proficiency", presented by Ms. Nada Al-Quzi, a lecturer in the department.

As for the third session, it was devoted to the theme of Islamic sciences and humanities. This session was moderated by Her Excellency Dr. Nuwair Ba-Jabir, Vice Dean of Student Affairs (female section) in Al-Qunfudhah. During the session, Dr. Firyal Al-Ali, Associate Professor at the Department of Arabic Language, presented a paper entitled: "Blended Learning and Its Impact on Academic Achievement among Students of the Department of Arabic Language at Al-Qunfudah University College: Comparative Literature Course As a Model". This was followed by a paper entitled: "The Importance of (Immediate) Feedback for Improving Communication Competencies", which was presented by Dr. Shadhliyah Al-Sayyid, Assistant Professor in the department. Afterwards, Dr. Nabilah Al-Turki, Assistant Professor in the Department of Islamic Studies, presented a paper entitled: "Teaching Strategies for Formulating Preponderance Rules and Acquiring the Talent Needed for Teaching Qur'an Exegesis". Dr. Sarah Al-Hakami, Associate Lecturer in the Department of Arabic Language, presented a paper entitled: "The Impact of the Mind Mapping Strategy on the Academic Level of Female Students in the Grammar Course".

The forum concluded its sessions on Tuesday, 8 Rajab, 1441 A.H., corresponding to 3 March, 2020 A.C. A committee was formed to formulate the recommendations. The committee included the Vice Deanship Academic Coordinator and Rapporteur of the Preparatory Committee, Dr. Firyal Al-`Ali, the Vice Dean for Educational Affairs and Member of the Preparatory Committee, Dr. Jazi `Abdul-Wahid, the members of the Preparatory Committee: Dr. Umm Al-Zain Badawi and Dr. Ashwaq Rajab, and a number of academics who participated by submitting papers: ( Dr. Huwaida Sayed, Dr. Safiyyah Al-Duqail, Dr. Shadhliyah Al-Sayyid, and Dr. Zainab Al-Siba`i. Among the members of the Follow-up and Academic Coordination Committee were: (Ms. Aliyyah Al-Omari, Ms. Fatimah Al-Sabati, and the representative of the Al-Qunfudhah Education Sector, Ms. Wafaa Al-Asmari.

The committee recommended the following:

  1. Activating and stimulating modern teaching strategies that develop the creative side of the student.
  2. Transferring university teaching from education to learning.
  3. Systematizing mobile learning for teaching university courses.
  4. Holding training sessions for faculty members on the latest strategies, taking into account that the trainer should major in the subject matter for maximum benefit.
  5. Qualifying faculty members to use all the technical means available at the college.
  6. Requesting technical support from the Deanship of E-Learning and Distance Education to design e-courses.
  7. Addressing the competent authorities at the university regarding the reconsideration of course descriptions to be in line with the use of modern strategies.
  8. Organizing joint meetings and courses between the college and the education sector in Al-Qunfudhah to exchange experience.
  9. Holding the forum on an annual basis, and providing wider room for participation.
  10. The title of the forum next year, Allah willing, will be: "Modern Trends in Scientific Research: Experience and Approaches".

At the end of the forum, Her Excellency the Vice Dean of the College, Dr. Sharifah Al-Hazimi, distributed certificates to the participants and the preparatory committees of the forum.

The closing ceremony was attended by the Vice Dean of Student Affairs (female section) in Al-Qunfudhah, Dr. Nuwair Ba-Jabir, and a number of faculty members and administrators at the college. The Coordinator of the Media Center, Ms. Laila Al-Sheikhi, played an outstanding role in carrying out media coverage and in documenting the forum.
