In continuation of Al-Qunfudhah College's scientific activities, and in the framework of the fruitful cooperation between the Department of Physics and the Vice Deanship of Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research in the college, the 6th session of the scientific seminar, for the year 1441 A.H., was held. Prof. Abdul-Rahman bin Muhammad Salim delivered a seminar in the college's theater entitled: "The Optical and Structural Properties of Compound Thin Films" (GeTe4 100-xInx)". In the seminar, he explained the importance of thin films in modern technological applications, represented in the applications of solar cells, in addition to their importance in the manufacturing of compact disks.
He also displayed the composition and the properties of the (GeTe4 100-xInx) compound, and the change in the refractive index and the band gap energy as a result of the change in the replacement of the element (In) at the expense of the content (GeTe4). He documented the behavior of the change in the physical properties as a result of this replacement, using theoretical calculations.
At the end of the meeting, the discussion was opened for the students, teachers, and attendees. Certificates of thanks and appreciation were also given to Prof. Abdul-Rahman Salim in the presence of the Vice Dean of Postgraduate Studies and Scientific Research, Dr. Yahia bin Muzhir Al-Zahrani.
