A Workshop Entitled: ‘3D Printers: An Amazing Technology’ in Al-Qunfudhah

"Some people are always ready to develop innovations!" With this statement, the Deputy Head of the Department of Physics at the University College in Al-Qunfudhah, Ms. Fatimah Uthman Al-Shuqaifi, opened a workshop held on Tuesday, 22 Rabi` Al-Awwal, 1441 A.H. The workshop was held in the main headquarters of the female section, under the title, "Three Dimensional (3D) Printers: An Amazing Technology". She explained that physics is the building block of the world of technology, and that 3D printers, based on a number of physical concepts, represent a powerful scientific revolution. This indicates the importance of bringing 3-D printers into the limelight, particularly in the educational community.

At the beginning of the workshop, the students presented simulation models of 3D printers using the 3D pen, making interesting designs for the audience. In addition, there were PowerPoint presentations on the subject matter of the workshop. There was also a special corner for entertaining experiments based on some physical phenomena, which showed the audience how important the study of physics is. Furthermore, some secrets in physics were revealed that stunned the audience. The corner was organized under the supervision of Ms. Serajah Ahmad Al-Sharif.

The positive impression the workshop left on the attendees exceeded the expectations of the students and faculty members. Her Excellency the Vice Dean of the College, Dr. Sharifah Eissa Al-Hazmi, expressed her happiness with all that the physics students presented. She also expressed her thanks and gratitude to the Department of Physics for carrying out this wonderful work. On her part, the Vice Dean for Educational Affairs, Her Excellency Dr. Jazi Abdullah Abdul-Wahed, expressed her pleasure and pride in the achievements of the students of the department, and the strong sense of innovation and integration of knowledge they demonstrated.

Dr. Huda Kawash and Dr. Sumayyah Awad expressed their pride in the students of the department, and in the work and innovations they presented through this interesting subject. Moreover, Prof. Tahani Saleh Al-Kureida affirmed how impressed she was with the innovative works of the students of the Department of Physics, who unlocked their talents to present this promising future technology of use for mankind in various scientific, industrial, medical and engineering fields. Ms. Samar Hamed Al-Harbi added that this workshop opened new scientific horizons for female students in modern technologies, which could be a goal for them in their career paths. Moreover, keeping up with new scientific ideas will play an important and pivotal role in realizing the vision of our beloved country, i.e. the Saudi Vision 2030.

In a speech by the student Razan Al-Faqih, on behalf of all the students of the department, she affirmed that the 3D Printer workshop was very enjoyable, as it included many diverse creative ideas for the students that served as a link between the theoretical ideas in the classroom and the scientific application in public life. She thanked the faculty members of the department for organizing this workshop, and for giving them the opportunity to actively participate in this important scientific and technological exercise.
