Acting upon the directions of his Excellency UQU president to establish relationships with the hotel industry; the standards adopted by the highest quality and accreditation institutions the college is addressing (AACSB & EFMD); the directions of the dean of the College of Business Administration, Dr. Sultan bin Ayyid Al Bogami, and the series of meetings held between Dr. Al Bogami with a number of hotel industry experts and businessmen, the Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management has adopted a learning methodology built on the industry needs, and thus each course curriculum requires holding a field tour or an interview with an industry expert , in order to embrace the methodology of continuous development of the courses and provide students with current field information related to the field of tourism and hospitality.
In this context, Dr. Hatem Radwan and Dr. Youssry Nabil (the head of the department) have accompanied the students of the following courses: tourism business administration, designing and planning hotel facilities, and management of pilgrims’ accommodation services (from the department of business administration of Hajj and Umra and in coordination with Dr. Abu Al ELa Turki, the department head), in a field tour at Anjum Hotel in Makkah Al Mukaramah (which is one of the biggest hotels in the Middle East with a capacity of 1764 hotel rooms and suites), on the 14th of Rajab 1437 AH. The meeting commenced with Dr. Radwan making an introduction about the hotel, stating the reason of the tour, and the future work opportunities in the sector. Dr. Youssry talked next and extended his thanks to the dean for his directions to conduct such field tours for the students, he then indicated that such tours are part of the processes of international accreditation of the college programs, he also mentioned some aspects of the management philosophy of Anjum Hotel and its plans of Saudizing the jobs by 80 %, he also talked about the expansion plan of Abdul Latif Jameel Real Estate Group of building other hotels in Makkah Al Mukaramah, and thus providing future work opportunities for the students. He advised the students to seize the opportunity and record such visit and interview the hotel managers so as to get to know the industry more closely and how the knowledge they acquired at the college could be applied practically in the industry. The students were received by the general manager of the hotel, the consultant of Abdel Latif Jameel Group for training and development, the hotel operation manager, the front desk managers, and the internal supervision manager. Students were taken in a field tour around the divisions of the hotel, and then a presentation was conducted about Anjum Hotel, and the expansion plans of Abdel Latif Jameel Real Estate Group. Examples of successful Saudi managers showed up, and the students spoke with them to get to know the ways of success in such field, and asked them about the pricing in the hotels and the strategies of building relations with the hotel guests.
The field tour ended with extending thanks to the management of Anjum hotel and Abdel Latif Jameel Real Estate Group for hosting students of the department of tourism and hospitality, and extending the sincerest thanks and appreciation to Dr. Sultan Al Bogami for his support of cooperation between college programs and the industry, and his support of the students, and praying for Allah the Almighty to grant him success.
