The Department of Medical Parasitology teaches the courses of clinical parasitology to surgery students at the College of Medicine. It also participates in teaching diagnostic parasitology courses at the College of Applied Medical Sciences (Laboratory Medicine Program). In these courses, the students are introduced to different types of parasites found in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as a whole and Makkah Al-Mukarramah in particular due to the coming of the Hajj and Umrah pilgrims and visitors to the Sacred City throughout the year.

After completing the courses of the department, students should be acquainted with the following topics:

  • Identifying and detecting parasites that may afflict humans.
  • Identifying laboratory tests that detect parasitic infections.
  • Diagnosing diseases that may result from parasites.
  • Information about surrounding epidemics, which helps with the prevention and elimination of rampant parasitic diseases.
  • Appreciating the importance of parasites in scientific research and medical practice, based on scientific proof.
