Overview:

The Saudi Scientific Society for the Principles of Jurisprudence and Shari`ah Objectives at Umm Al-Qura University (Osol) is one of the scientific societies that was established subject to the regulations governing the work of scientific societies in Saudi universities. It is based in the College of Shari`ah and Islamic Studies at Umm Al-Qura University in Makkah.

  • Umm Al-Qura University Council issued the approval to establish the society on 24 Rabi` Al-Awwal, 1434 A.H.
  • The first General Assembly meeting was held, according to which the Board of Directors was chosen, on 5 Ramadan, 1435 A.H.

The society has defined its vision, mission and values according to the following:

Vision:

Achieving leadership in Ta’sil (underlying the principles) for the method of Istidlal (deduction/inference) and its contemporary applications.

Mission:

Serving the science of the principles of Islamic jurisprudence and the objectives of the Shari`ah in terms of research and application, following a moderate and contemporary approach by launching initiatives and programs, and establishing scientific partnerships and all possible activities to achieve quality in fatwas, deduction, and the etiquettes of disagreement, research and debate.
