Occupational health is concerned with promoting the highest standards of physical, psychological, and social well-being of workers, and maintaining their health while they practice their different professions and occupations by preventing unhealthy practices, managing risks, providing suitable working conditions, and preparing individuals to be able to perform their jobs. Occupational health is a multifaceted and multidisciplinary approach that focuses on the prevention of the ill-health of workers. The bilateral relationship between work and health is also taken into consideration in this approach.

Occupational health is primarily aimed at preventing, rather than treating, ill-health caused by the work environment. The health of workers remains at the center of attention of occupational health–an objective that is sought by workers and employers alike. The culture of good health and safety policies and practices must be upheld and passed on from professionals to administrators, and then disseminated among workforce members.

Indeed, occupational health will achieve its objectives when all parties within the work environment believe that safety policies and procedures are part of their respective responsibilities.
