Overview:

The department of Occupational Health is one of the departments of Faculty of Public Health and Health Informatics, Umm Al Qura University, Makkah Al Mukarrama, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. This university has taken the lead in establishing Department of Occupational Health which will award Bachelors degree in Occupational Health within the Faculty of Public Health and Health Informatics. This pioneering department of Occupational Health will take students from the next academic year (1438-39 H) inshallah. The establishment of this department was propelled by the need to strengthen the formation of innovative and creative Occupational Health professionals and researchers, in addition to improve community awareness and public engagement.

The mission of the Department of Occupational Health is to form qualified professionals and researchers by sustaining excellence in teaching, research and community services relevant to occupational health, safety and environmental issues and their impact on human health.

The Department of Occupational Health will be the premier and pioneer institution in the country offering a Bachelor Degree in Occupational Health that has been recognized nationally and internationally for innovative teaching, research, services and practices in a diverse environment in order to achieve the well-being of communities including workers by developing effective solutions to Occupational health and safety problems.

Objectives:

  • To provide opportunity for people to think critically, and anticipate, identify and evaluate hazardous conditions and practices and apply effective control measures in order to improve working conditions and environment in areas such as occupational health, industrial hygiene, accident prevention, risk assessment and risk management, ergonomics, fire and emergency preparedness and response.
  • To develop effective safe operating procedures and comprehensive occupational health and safety program to address identified hazardous conditions and practices in a cost effective manner.
  • To pursue life long learning to effectively practice within a rapidly evolving, continuously changing and increasingly diverse global environment.
  • To conduct scientific research in occupational health and safety and be able to make independent scientific judgments in professional and ethical manner.
